Hair Maintenance
Before application, your own hair must
be washed and completely dry. With any bonding technique, always start
at the nape and work your way up to the crown. Prepare your equipment
and Soft & Silky hair piece for use. Lastly, certain styles require
different partitions. Decide on style before beginning.

- PREPARATION
Most human hairpieces should be washed and conditioned before it
is placed on the client to remove any residue left from the manufacturing
process. In addition, check the weft (the sewn band) for any unusual
gaps or looseness. With wefted hairpieces, hair is doubled over
and then sewn onto to the weft. Therefore, silkier and straighter
styles have a tendency to slip out. You can reinforce the weft by
sewing through the loose areas or by applying a waterproof adhesive
(i.e. bonding glue) on the weft. This usually eliminates any shedding
problems that might occur.
GENERAL
CARE
the following are general care recommendations that the professional
can tailor to suit the needs of the client and the specific human
hair weave or braid procedure
1. Hair should be shampooed and conditioned regularly. Dirt, natural
hair oils, styling products and even sweat are agents that can tangle
and mat the client's own hair. They will cause further problems
for hairpieces. Although the cleanliness of the hair extension will
prolong its use, clients should not clean it too frequently or with
shampoos containing harsh detergents. Excessive use of styling products
and heat should also be avoided. These are elements that will shorten
the "life" of the hair extension. Clients should also
take care to condition their own hair underneath to prevent any
damage to their own hair; the design is only half of the hairstyle
2. The hair extensions should be gently detangled using a wide tooth
comb everyday and before going to bed. Even more importantly, hair
must be detangled before it is washed
3. Never rub or massage the hair extension while washing; the shampoo
water should just run through the hair. If towel drying, gentle
squeeze out excess water and blot with a towel. Do not rub or roll
the hair in the towel
4. While detangling dry hair, water should not be used alone on
the extension. A solution of water and conditioner in a spray bottle
is an inexpensive way to make your own detangling solution. Otherwise,
we recommend a good detangling solution that is applied before combing
the hair
5. If curling or blow drying the extension, avoid any area where
heat sensitive adhesives have been used to affix the extension.
Also, when blow drying curly hair, we recommend the use of a diffuser
6. Clients should also be advised to dry hair thoroughly before
going to bed. Long extensions should be braided into one big braid
and short hair tied in a scarf to prevent tangling and to maintain
style.

COLOR
Natural hair colour is actually composed of many colours rather
than the mono-toned colour the eye may see. Clients with hair colour
other than black and dark brown might be more difficult to match
with solid tone extensions. This can be solved in a number of ways.
1. The easiest solution is to blend two or more colours to match
the client's own hair colour. This is probably the safest method
for clients to either match their own hair colour or add contrast.
2. Another solution is to dye the client's hair to match the colour
of the extensions.
3. If the client wants to avoid a chemical process, then the extension
itself can be dyed to match the client's hair. This practice is
generally discouraged by most human hair manufacturers as the hairpiece
has already been chemically processed. However, if the hair extension
must be coloured, dye extensions by depositing colour from a lighter
to darker colour. A strand test should always be performed before
the whole hairpiece is dyed.
